Oral Health at Children’s National: Why Choose Us?

We know that establishing a lifetime of good oral health starts at a young age. We also know that going to the dentist even for a routine cleaning can be challenging for young patients. Our doctors are uniquely qualified to take care of all kids including those with special health care conditions, facial problems, or injuries to their face and jaw. Since our providers’ training is specific to children, they are able to recognize and treat conditions unique to growing kids. We make it our mission to take care of each child as an individual and provide the safest and best care possible.

Among the conditions we treat:
  • Tooth decay (cavities)
  • Toothache and dental infections
  • Gum problems
  • Dental emergencies and trauma

Depending on your child’s needs, we offer:

  • Routine dental check-ups and cleanings
  • Flouride
  • Dental treatment with:
    • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
    • Oral sedation
    • General anesthesia
  • Infant oral health appointments
  • Sealants
  • Fillings and crowns
  • Extractions

We recommend children have their first dental visit by the time they turn 1 year old. No matter the procedure, our dentists and dental assistants will be there to work with you every step of the way.

Oral Surgery

Our team of oral surgeons are trained to evaluate and treat pediatric patients in a safe and comfortable manner. They treat a range of concerns, from traumatic injury to the face or jaw, routine extractions, complex extractions of impacted teeth, lesions of the gums and jaw bones and any gum problems.

If your child needs anesthesia for a procedure, you can feel confident in the fact that Children's National is the only hospital in the Washington, D.C., area that guarantees a that fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia at all times.

Planning Your Visit

Our Oral Health Program accepts new patients that are 8 years old or younger, patients with disabilities that are 14 years old or younger, and new patients older than 14 years old after a consultation with a dentist.
