Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Program

Our Services

The Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Program quickly identifies developmental challenges in children of all ages. We divide our patients into two categories: infants and toddlers and school readiness. Here’s what you can expect during the different stages:

Infant and Toddlers (ages 0-4)

Evaluation. Our developmental specialists evaluate your child, gathering information on your child’s motor, cognitive and language development, as well as play, behavior and feeding skills.
Treatment recommendations. During the visit, we provide recommendations to support your child’s development. We will share these recommendations with your child’s cardiologist and pediatrician.
Neurology visit. Our neurologist will conduct a neurological screening and schedule follow-up visits as necessary.
Specialty referrals. If necessary, we will make referrals for your child for physical, occupational or speech therapy as well as nutrition.

School-Age (ages 4+)

Evaluation. Your child will undergo a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation before starting kindergarten or first grade and again before middle school and high school. These evaluations assess the range of your child’s thinking skills, including:
- Intellectual skills
- Attention
- Executive skills (how children exhibit mental control and self-regulation)
- Learning and memory
- Visual-spatial
- Motor skills
- Emotional, behavioral and social functioning
Treatment recommendations. We provide detailed recommendations with the goal of promoting development and learning. We will share the recommendations with your child’s cardiologist and pediatrician. In addition, we provide documentation that can be helpful in obtaining educational support and interventions, if needed. Our education liaison can also help parents navigate the process of obtaining resources in school and the community.
